Twas the night before Christmas, and the fire in the cozy living room was just tiny glowing embers. Everyone in the house was fast asleep, dreaming of sugarplums and sleigh bells. Hanging right on the bumpy stone fireplace was the most beautiful Christmas stocking, knitted with soft red and white yarn.

But this wasn't an ordinary stocking! This stocking was stuffed to the very top. Inside, you could see the red and white swirls of giant candy canes. There were wrapped presents with shiny bows, and even a happy little teddy bear peeked over the rim, smiling and waiting for morning.

On the mantlepiece, a tiny mouse peeked out from behind a glowing candle and some green holly, making sure Santa had arrived. The whole room felt warm and magical, waiting for someone to add some cheerful colors!

• Main Character: The big Christmas stocking loves being a bright, cheerful red! You can alternate red and white stripes or maybe make it solid red. For the candy canes, try stripes of red and green or red and pink to make them look delicious!

• Background Elements: The fireplace would look great with brown or grey stones. The gifts can be any color you like—try a purple wrapper with a gold bow or a green wrapper with a blue bow! Don't forget to make the teddy bear a soft, fuzzy brown.

• Sky & Ground: How about a lovely, deep night-sky blue for the snowy backdrop? The ground can be left white or given a very soft blue tint.
